Hot work on tanks and drums

Flammable chemicals pose a risk of fire and explosion. However, even when these substances have been removed from the containers which held them, there can be enough remaining to cause deadly explosions if workers do hot work such as welding or gas cutting on the empty or partially filled containers.

We have produced guidance for those who do hot work on containers which may have held dangerous chemicals.

Hot work on tanks and drums describes safety procedures for anyone who welds, brazes, solders or gas cuts any container or pipe that has contained a combustible substance.
